Top Reasons to Book Photos at Huntington Beach State Park with a Myrtle Beach Photographer

Looking for the perfect location for your photo session? Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet has a little bit of everything. It is an incredible “go-to” for anyone looking to line their walls with new photos. There is a variety of beautiful backdrops, including the one and only historic Atalaya Castle. As a local photographer, I’m excited to share why this park has been my most requested location by visitors and locals alike.

The Best Beachfront Photo Spot

Huntington Beach State Park Sunset Family Photos

Huntington Beach State Park offers a peaceful and spacious beach with breathtaking views of the ocean. The dunes and white sand, accompanied by the soothing sound of crashing waves, provide all you need for a serene session.

Natural Beauty and Wildlife in Murrells Inlet

The park is home to diverse wildlife, including birds, alligators, and other animals that add an extra layer of beauty to your photos. Whether your kids are playing or exploring, these natural moments create genuine, memorable shots that you'll treasure for years to come. We can venture onto the nature trails to find the Octopus Tree or stroll over the bridge to take in Mullet Pond. I’m always ready to adventure down to the Jetty Walk, but since it’s a four-mile round trip, it’s not ideal for kids—and pets aren’t allowed.

A Great Playground for the Kids

Getting kids to stay still for photos can be challenging, but the park has a fantastic playground to reward them with a little fun during the session. It’s the perfect way to keep them engaged while I capture those natural moments of joy, energy, and connection. Ice cream is available at Scoops, making it a great treat when you’re all done—kids will love it, and maybe you will too!

Quiet Myrtle Beach Photography Location

Huntington Beach State Park is much quieter compared to the more crowded beaches in Myrtle Beach. With less foot traffic, you’ll have more space and time to relax during your session without worrying about crowds or distractions. This peaceful setting allows us to take our time and get the perfect shots.

A Magical View of the Myrtle Beach Sunsets

The sunsets at Huntington Beach are absolutely breathtaking. I often post about how they never get old. The golden hour light adds a warm, soft glow to your photos, making it the perfect time for family portraits. The colors in the sky create a beautiful and memorable backdrop that enhances every shot.

Bonus: Atalaya Castle as a Photo Backdrop

After your photo session on the beach, let’s head over to Atalaya Castle. This historic Spanish-style fortress provides a unique and dramatic backdrop for family photos. The castle’s stone architecture, with its intricate details and towers, offers a perfect contrast to the natural beauty of the beach and the surrounding park.

Note: Atalaya Castle closes at 5 PM or earlier, depending on the time of year, with shorter hours during daylight savings. Be sure to plan your session accordingly so you can take advantage of this stunning location.

Whether you’re looking for a peaceful beach setting, a chance to explore nature, or the perfect sunset, Huntington Beach State Park offers everything you need for beautiful family photos.
